The other day I picked up a lovely copy of Hansel and Gretel at our local bookstore while exchanging some old books that were taking up precious space on the bookshelf. I don't think Chickpea is quite ready for this dark tale but I just fell in love with the illustrations so I wanted to have a copy resting on our shelf for when she is older.
"Prepared for the Worst" by Jen Corace
Jen Corace's illustrations are charming but complex. I really appreciate her use of color, dark earthtones with flares of bright and sophisticated colors. Her characters are demure and delicate but there is a darkness behind them, it's a depth you don't see that often in children's illustrations and it's refreshing.
By the way, have you checked out these places for affordable art? Have you found any other places?
